What is the University Prep Early College High School program?
University Prep Early College students are planning on attending a four year college or university after graduation and/or are interested in earning college credits while in high school. Classes are taken online and students can contact teachers for support by email or phone. Students access virtual classes and tutoring support through Zoom. All courses meet A-G requirements ensuring students are prepared for 4-year college/university admission. Our classes also meet NCAA requirements to support athletes looking for admission to Division I, II, and III universities. What is Early College?
In our Early College program, students have the unique opportunity to participate in college-level courses, earning both high school and college credit simultaneously. This innovative program not only provides students with exposure to a college environment through dual enrollment, but also offers the possibility for some students to complete an Associates of Arts degree or receive Certificates by the time they graduate high school. Students in our Early College program will have enrollment priority to college courses offered by the Los Rio Community College District. Students who are interested in earning an Associates Degree and/or a Certificate can meet with our counselors to get more information.
*Students who enroll in the program in 10th, 11th or 12th grade may not have enough time to earn all the college credits required for an AA degree but they are still able to earn transferable college credits to get a headstart on their post high school plans.
My child is college-bound, do you offer Honors courses?
Yes, our online curriculum satisfies college and university admissions requirements. University Prep also offers required labs for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Spanish Voice Labs are offered through video conferencing. Additionally, most community college courses also count as Honors classes, making dual enrollment another option our students have to maximize their GPA potential.
How can I finish high school at home?
University Prep students complete classes, classwork, and exams online with their teacher’s support. Students meet with teachers in small student group meetings that are conducted virtually.
How does online University Prep Early College work?
Students complete their coursework in our online program with the support of their advisory teacher and content teachers. Students complete personalized projects using technology to achieve success in a standards-based curriculum. Core classes are supported by a credentialed teacher who is available to students through virtual classes, email, chat, tutoring sessions, and office hours. The goal of University Prep is to prepare students to meet college admission requirements. All students will be enrolled in classes that meet these requirements.
What are Learning Assessments?
Learning Assessments provide students with a clear view of where they stand academically and determine what they’re ready to learn next to build their personalized learning plan. Students in grades nine through eleven will participate in the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) MAP reading and mathematics assessments. Learning Assessments will be referenced in the student’s Master Agreement and will be administered to all Visions students.
Does Visions offer high school dances and other social opportunities?
Visions students enjoy all the social opportunities other high school students have and many more. These include weekly events, dances, student meeting experiences, student clubs, study hall and extracurricular writing classes. Activities vary by academy, but all students are given opportunities to socialize and make new friends.
Can my student take college courses while enrolled in Visions?
Yes! Dual Enrollment allows qualified students to take free community college courses on top of their high school coursework. Students may take core courses, elective or technical education courses. In many instances, we help cover the costs of materials and textbooks for these classes while enrolled. For more information, see our Support Services page.
Are Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses available?
Visions In Education partners with community colleges throughout our service area to offer Career Technical Education (CTE) classes. Visions students receive hands-on occupational and technical training in a wide variety of fields, including gaming, medical, cybersecurity and more. Can my student take driver’s education classes?
Yes! University Prep students can take Driver’s Education using funds from their $1,500 budget. Visions In Education utilizes a California DMV approved, internet-based, course. This online course covers the ground rules of road and vehicle safety, with an emphasis on capable and efficient driving.
Can students graduate early?
This will depend on the student’s unique circumstance and personalized educational plan developed with the student’s counselor. Students must receive approval from their Principal to ensure early graduation.
