Graduation season at Visions In Education is in full swing, and families, staff, and students across our nine-county service area are celebrating the incredible accomplishments of the Class of 2026.
Last week, University Prep Early College Academy Principal Christina McKinnis joined teachers, counselors, seniors, and their families at the Mack Powell Event Center in Sacramento for the 2026 University Prep Senior Celebration. The evening honored the hard work, dedication, and achievements of this year’s graduating class while giving students an opportunity to reflect on their journeys together.
“The energy was so joyful throughout the evening,” shared University Prep Credentialed Teacher Christine McKnight.
Throughout the celebration, Principal McKinnis, Counselor Julie Winalski, and Credentialed Teachers Melinda Lewis and Katie Barrantes recognized the University Prep Academy’s Class of 2026 for their outstanding accomplishments both inside and outside of the virtual classroom.
Together, University Prep seniors completed more than 200 community college courses, demonstrating their commitment to getting a head start on higher education. Senior Mia P. was also celebrated for earning her Associate of Arts degree in Political Science before graduating high school.
Students were recognized for acceptances to colleges and universities across the country, including multiple University of California institutions all the way to Boston University. The evening also highlighted five seniors who signed letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.
Academic excellence remained a major focus of the celebration, with more than 30 graduating UP seniors earning GPAs above 4.0. Many students achieved these accomplishments while also completing Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways and earning the California State Seal of Biliteracy. In addition, over 60 UP seniors earned the prestigious Golden State Seal Merit Diploma, an academic distinction awarded to graduates who demonstrate mastery across multiple subject areas and meet rigorous academic benchmarks.
The celebration also showcased the creativity and talent of University Prep students through a special art show coordinated by VAPA Teacher Lily Nichols. Student artwork displayed throughout the venue highlighted the artistic achievements and personal expression of this year’s graduating class.
“This time of year is so exciting as we get to celebrate the accomplishments of all our graduates. Our teachers and counselors helped to cultivate each graduate’s path, some who have been with us since 9th grade, and we also get to reflect on all of the milestones along the way. It’s a great way to end the year and leaves us with smiles that last all summer,” said Principal Christina McKinnis.
Congratulations to the University Prep Academy Class of 2026! We look forward to continuing the celebration at graduation next week.
