Learning Beyond the Virtual Classroom: LP 2 Events Recap
Fall has been full of opportunities for Visions families to connect, learn, explore, and discover new possibilities! From hands-on enrichment experiences and educational field trips to informative Parent University sessions, our community came together to make learning meaningful both inside and outside the virtual classroom during Learning Period 2.
Home School: Museum Tours, Fog Willow Farms & More!
Our Home School families enjoyed several enriching experiences at local museums and historic sites.
At the World of Wonders Museum, students had the opportunity to engage with interactive exhibits and explore concepts through hands-on learning. Families also visited the Blackhawk Museum, where students could connect with history, culture, and innovation through the museum’s diverse collections.
At Sutter’s Fort, students stepped into California history and experienced an important piece of the state’s past firsthand. This experience demonstrated the value of hands-on exploration and gave students opportunities to make real-world connections to what they’re learning.
Families also had the opportunity to visit the California Highway Patrol (CHP), where students learned about the important role law enforcement plays in keeping our communities safe. Through this hands-on experience, students gained insight into public safety, explored career connections, and learned from the professionals who serve their communities.
And lastly, our families enjoyed a couple of exciting bonus events at Fog Willow Farms and a Sacramento Republic FC game! From exploring the farm and enjoying time outdoors to cheering on our local pro soccer team, these experiences brought families together for fun, connection, and community.
Online Middle School: Bowling
Our Online Middle School students hit the lanes for a fun bowling event! Students had the chance to connect with classmates, enjoy some friendly competition, and build friendships outside the virtual classroom.
High School: Oakland Zoo, SMUD MOSAC & Water for Elephants
Our high school students enjoyed an exciting day of exploration with trips to the Oakland Zoo and SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC), as well as a memorable theater performance of Water for Elephants! From discovering wildlife and learning about conservation to exploring hands-on science exhibits and experiencing the magic of live theater, students had opportunities to connect learning with real-world experiences and engage with the arts.
All Academies: Enrichment Vendor Fairs
Families across our academies had the opportunity to attend our Enrichment Vendor Fairs, where they could meet enrichment providers, explore new activities, and discover opportunities to complement their students’ learning throughout the school year.
These events gave families a chance to connect directly with vendors and find programs that inspire students to explore their interests, develop new skills, and pursue their passions.
Parent University
Our Parent University program continued to provide families with valuable resources, information, and opportunities to connect with Visions staff.
This month’s sessions covered a wide range of topics designed to support students and families at every stage of their educational journey, including:
- Planning for Learning: Feedback — Curriculum & Instruction
- Speech Early Identifiers — Early Childhood Education
- Building Finger Strength and Fine Motor Skills — Early Childhood Education

- SELPA Advisory Committee — Special Education
- Parenting with Positive Discipline — Wellness & Social-Emotional Development
- New Family Orientations — Home School
- New Student & Parent Orientations — Online Middle School

From understanding how feedback supports learning to strengthening early childhood development, these sessions provided families with practical tools and a deeper understanding of the resources available through Visions.
Thank You!
Whether students were exploring a museum, meeting an enrichment vendor, or learning about our programs, LP 2 offered countless opportunities to learn and grow together.
We’re grateful to our students, families, staff, and community partners who continue to make these experiences possible.
