Grad Spotlight: An Overture to Success

For Sofiia D., music has never simply been a hobby. As a dedicated classical vocalist with ambitious goals, she knew she needed a learning environment that would allow her to pursue both academic excellence and her passion for music.

“Conventional education didn’t allow me to use my time efficiently,” she shared.

During her sophomore year of high school, Sofiia enrolled in Visions’ University Prep Early College Academy. Together with her credentialed teacher and counselor, she built a personalized learning plan that gave her the ability to take ownership of her education while continuing to develop as a vocalist.

Through Visions, Sofiia was able to customize her schedule, earn college credit through dual enrollment, and dedicate more time to preparing for the future she had always envisioned.

A Dream Years in the Making

Sofiia’s musical journey began when she started taking vocal lessons at just seven years old. What began as a childhood interest quickly grew into a lifelong passion.

“Music has become an important part of who I am,” she said.

Over the years, she performed in numerous competitions and concerts, discovering that singing was far more than an extracurricular activity. “I had performed in many competitions and concerts, in which I discovered that singing isn’t just a hobby for me, but the path I want to take.

Outside of school, music continues to fill much of her life. Whether she’s practicing her vocals, playing the piano, performing for audiences, or watching opera—her favorite being Le Nozze di Figaro—Sofiia is constantly refining her craft.

As graduation approached, she saw another opportunity to share her love of music by auditioning to perform during Visions’ commencement ceremony. “I wanted to spread the beauty of classical music with my peers and make this milestone unforgettable for all of us,” she explained.

Being selected to perform made the moment even more meaningful.

“I feel honored because this performance represents how far I’ve come as a singer, and it marks a transition into the next chapter in every student’s life.”

Support Every Step of the Way

While Sofiia appreciated the independence that came with personalized learning, what stood out most during her time at Visions was the support she received from her educational team.

“I always felt like my teachers were truly invested in my success and were always there to help.”

Although she attended Visions for just three semesters, she built meaningful relationships with both her teacher and counselor. She always felt comfortable reaching out with questions, knowing they would respond with encouragement, kindness, and guidance.

Alongside her musical pursuits, Sofiia also enjoyed challenging herself academically. Physics became her favorite subject thanks to the interactive learning tools that brought concepts to life. “It made the learning process really engaging,” she shared.

She also took advantage of Visions’ dual enrollment opportunities, allowing her to earn college credit while still in high school.

“Visions made the process very easy, and when I had a question or a concern, I could reach out and get help! It also helped me to graduate early!”

Taking Center Stage

As graduation marked the end of one chapter, it also opened the door to an exciting future.

After auditioning for several prestigious music conservatories—including the University of Rochester – Eastman School of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and USC Thornton School of Music—Sofiia received multiple acceptances along with nearly $800,000 in merit-based and presidential scholarships.

This fall, she will attend the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, where she will pursue a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance and continue working toward her dream of becoming an opera singer.

Looking back on her time at Visions, Sofiia encourages future students to take advantage of the opportunities a personalized education can provide.

“Visions In Education provides great opportunities, high-quality education, and flexibility to pursue your dreams!”
