Student Spotlight: Balancing Business, Music, & Big Goals

For many students, a traditional school schedule can make it difficult to pursue passions, extracurricular activities, and personal goals outside the classroom.

At Visions, students have the flexibility to create an educational experience that supports all aspects of their growth. For Axel P., that personalized approach has opened doors to leadership opportunities, national competitions, athletics, music, and ambitious academic goals.

Axel joined Visions in eighth grade alongside his brother, Ayzik, after their mother Alexis was hired as a Teacher on Special Assignment. Now preparing to enter his junior year in the University Prep Early College Academy, Axel has taken full advantage of the opportunities available to him, developing as a student, leader, athlete, entrepreneur, and artist.

Developing Leadership Through Business

Some of Axel’s greatest passions are entrepreneurship and leadership. As Vice President of Visions’ Future Business Leaders club, he collaborates with fellow students to explore entrepreneurship, develop business ideas, and learn the skills needed to succeed in today’s business world.

His dedication has led him far beyond the classroom. Most recently, Axel traveled to Boston to compete in the National Future Bound Competition, where some of the nation’s most promising young leaders showcase their talents and demonstrate skills in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, leadership, and career readiness.

The experience built upon several other opportunities he has earned through Future Business Leaders. Last year, he traveled to Atlanta to compete in the National Junior Achievement Competitionwhere his team placed third in the nation. He has also participated in the High School Business Pitch Competition, gaining valuable experience presenting ideas, collaborating with peers, and learning from young entrepreneurs across the country.

“We had such a great time just being kids and looked out for each other the entire way,” Axel shared. “Another thing I was excited about was being able to compete against the best of the best in the U.S. and then place third on top of that.”

Making an Impact Beyond the Classroom

Axel’s involvement extends well beyond business competitions. Alongside his brother, he co-founded and is the President of Visions’ Christian Club, creating a space for students with shared interests and values to connect and grow together.

He is also an active participant in school events and programs. One of his favorite experiences has been attending the LifeWork Student Leadership Workshop, which helped him continue developing his leadership and communication skills.

Outside of school, Axel maintains a busy schedule as a year-round competitive swimmer. When he’s not training in the pool, he channels his creativity into music. Performing Christian rap under the name “AP,” he continues to write, record, and grow as an artist. He is also actively involved in his church’s camera and media teams and is currently preparing to audition for the worship team.

For Axel, the opportunities he has pursued would not have been possible without the flexibility provided by Visions.

“If not for Visions, I may not be able to swim or make music at all,” he said.

Because of his family’s location and commute, attending a traditional school would significantly limit his ability to participate in the activities that matter most to him.

“If I didn’t go to Visions, I would have no time to get to these activities and would be forced to move,” Axel explained. “Visions allows me to keep (and bring) MY world where I want it.”

Looking Ahead

While Axel is deeply involved in activities outside the classroom, he remains equally focused on his academic future.

“I love both my teachers and my counselor,” he shared. “They are always there for me when I need them.”

Working closely with his support team, Axel has created an ambitious academic plan that will allow him to pursue all three associate degree pathways offered through Visions, giving him a significant head start on college and career goals.

He plans to maintain a rigorous course load and strong GPA as he works toward his long-term goal of attending a prestigious university, with Stanford at the top of his list.

Beyond college, Axel hopes to combine his interests in entrepreneurship, marketing, and music by pursuing a career in the music industry. He also plans to continue growing as a leader through Leadership College at his church.

For students considering Visions, Axel encourages them to embrace the opportunities available and get involved.

“After you get used to it, it is where you will flourish the most,” he said. “Make sure you go to regional events and join clubs. This is where you will meet people who have similar interests or goals as you. If you need a club to join, check out Christian Club!”
