As Abigail Z. prepares to begin her next chapter in Visions’ University Prep Early College Academy this school year, she looks back on the experiences that have shaped her journey as a Visionary.
A dedicated violinist, Abigail spends countless hours honing her craft through practice, discipline, and perseverance. When she enrolled in Visions’ Home School Academy in fifth grade, her family was looking for a school that would allow her to balance rigorous academics with her growing commitment to music. What they found was far more than flexibility—they found a community that has supported her growth both inside and outside the classroom.

While Abigail values the ability to balance schoolwork with her many interests, the most meaningful part of her Visions experience has been the close relationship she has built with her credentialed teacher, Mrs. Danien Cowan.
As she prepares to transition to high school, Abigail reflects on the teacher who has guided and encouraged her throughout the past four years.
“She is the most thoughtful, kind, and dedicated teacher I have ever had, and I will truly miss having her as my teacher when I move on to high school.”
Since enrolling in fifth grade, Abigail and Mrs. Cowan have worked closely together through Visions’ personalized learning model. Their one-on-one partnership has helped Abigail grow academically, build confidence in her abilities, and always feel supported in reaching her goals.
“Abigail brings many strengths and gifts to her family and community, and it has been a privilege and blessing to know her for the last four years,” shared Mrs. Cowan.
For Abigail, finding a school that could support both her academics and her musical pursuits was essential. Music has been a defining part of her life since early childhood. Growing up with a father who teaches violin, Abigail picked up the instrument at just five years old.
“He constantly encouraged me and helped me fall in love with music,” she explained. “My dad has played a huge role in shaping who I am today.”
Nearly nine years later, that passion has only grown stronger. Abigail now dedicates about two hours each day to practicing the violin. She also studies with one of Visions’ enrichment vendors, Attilla Sautov, to continue developing her skills, and has spent the past five years training through her church’s violin academy, where she will graduate in two years.
“My favorite part is seeing the beautiful results that come from hard work and dedication. After spending time learning a piece, it feels incredibly rewarding to perform it well.”
Her dedication has led to impressive accomplishments. Abigail earned first place in the 2024 “Go for the Gold” competition at California State University, Sacramento, after placing second in 2023. Earlier this year, she also shared her musical talents by performing at her eighth-grade promotion ceremony.
“The opportunities I have through music, such as performing with different orchestras and using my talents to serve God, keep me motivated.”
When she’s not practicing violin or completing schoolwork, Abigail enjoys spending time with friends and family, discovering new coffee shops, and exploring beautiful places.
Looking toward the future, she hopes to combine her love of music and travel by performing with orchestras around the world. After high school, she plans to attend college and earn a degree in music while also exploring a career in the medical field, inspired by her interest in learning about the human body and how it works.
As she prepares for the next chapter of her educational journey, Abigail is grateful for the people who have encouraged her every step of the way.
“Visions has given me the opportunity to grow academically, pursue my passions, and develop important life skills. I am grateful for the support of my teacher Mrs. Cowan, my violin teacher Attilla Sautov, and my parents for the encouragement I have received throughout my journey as a student.”
