LaRoy has a vision for his future, and he’s working toward it everyday as a student at Visions.
In October 2024, LaRoy enrolled in the Independent Study Academy in search of a learning environment that better suited his individual needs and goals. This school year he is a junior who, paired with his work ethic and positive attitude, has found his stride at Visions.
Not only is he finding academic success, but is also building skills that support what he is most passionate about: acting and styling.
All students have the power to succeed, sometimes it just takes finding the right environment and support system to help them shine. For LaRoy, that environment is Visions.
“[LaRoy] has overcome barriers yet still manages to overachieve academically…his attitude and work ethic prevail,” said Brad Orender, LaRoy’s teacher
“I absolutely love how Visions lets us learn and work at our own pace,” LaRoy shared. Since enrolling, he has worked closely with his credentialed teacher, Mr. Orender, and his counselor to create a personalized learning path that truly works for him.
When asked about his relationship with his teacher, LaRoy enthusiastically explained, “my relationship with my teacher is awesome!!” He also shared that his counselor, “really makes sure I’m certain about the challenges I’m ready to take on.”
For LaRoy, one of the best parts of being a student at Visions is the flexibility that allows him to balance school with other things that matter most in his life.
“My favorite part is how us students can manage our time in a way that fits our life, and so far since I’ve been enrolled it’s been exactly that and much more!!”
While LaRoy is thriving academically, his talents also shine through in his passion for fashion and styling. “I’m big when it comes to helping people find the right clothes and shoes!” he explained.
He enjoys intentionally shopping and carefully putting together styled looks for both himself and others. Whether it’s finding the perfect pair of shoes or building a complete outfit, LaRoy loves helping people feel confident through their style.
During his time at Visions, he has developed skills that support this passion in practical ways. By learning how to create and manage a digital planner, LaRoy has been able to budget and plan his purchases thoughtfully — helping him turn creativity into a skill he can continue to grow.
Outside of styling, LaRoy loves expressing himself through acting and improv. Performing allows him to bring his creativity and personality to life, and the ability to personalize his learning path has given him more time to practice and develop these talents.
Looking ahead, LaRoy hopes to take those skills even further by auditioning for television and movie roles. Whether he’s performing on stage or in front of the camera, he hopes to continue building a future where creativity and storytelling take center stage.
LaRoy is putting the pieces together to create a future filled with success and the things he loves most.
When asked what advice he would share with students considering Visions, his response was simple and encouraging:
“Simply just enroll and watch how your learning experience will change and expand.”
