Superintendent Dr. Steve Olmos Shares Visions In Education's Story on FUEGO 101.9

Last month, Visions In Education Superintendent Dr. Steve Olmos joined award-winning radio personality Hector Millan on FUEGO 101.9’s popular afternoon show, “Fuego Drive,” to share how Visions continues to make a difference for students and families across Northern California.

FUEGO 101.9 is a regional radio station known for its Latin and Spanish-language programming, reaching communities throughout the area. Dr. Olmos highlighted how Visions’ academic programs help students navigate language barriers, learning disabilities, and social challenges like bullying — while also using the flexibility and safety of a home-based learning environment to build stronger academic routines.

During the conversation, Dr. Olmos spoke about the many resources available to Visions students, including funding for enrichment activities, opportunities to attend community college, and the freedom to build a school schedule that truly fits their lives.

The Visions Difference

Language Barriers: Multilingual learners have access to dedicated support from Visions’ Multilingual Learners Department, which is focused on building an inclusive, nurturing environment for language development, cultural understanding, and academic growth.

Learning Disabilities: Every student learns differently, which is why Visions pairs each student with a credentialed teacher and counselor who can tailor support to their individual strengths and areas for growth.

Community Building & Bullying Prevention: Visions In Education seeks to help facilitate student socialization opportunities such as school dances, field trips, regional events, and community opportunities. Visions students report positive experiences with like-minded peers in a positive and engaging environment supported by Visions staff.

Cultura Con Visons

Hispanic and Latino students make up an estimated 30 percent of Visions’ student population, and there are many ways for them to connect with their culture and community. Students can find community through student clubs such as Baile Folkorico, Latinx Success, and Latin Art Clubs.

Whether students prefer to join virtually or in person, these clubs create space for connection, learning, and critical thinking. Research shows that students who find community through clubs and shared interests see a significant drop in chronic absenteeism, underscoring just how powerful a sense of belonging can be.
