When the time came for Adelina J. to begin high school, she knew she needed an educational program that would support more than just her academic goals.
As a dedicated and competitive softball player, she wanted a school that would give her the flexibility to pursue her education while continuing to grow as an athlete. That search led her to Visions’ Independent Study Academy.
Now, four years into her journey as a Visionary, Adelina has made significant strides toward her goals. As she prepares for an early graduation this year, she is balancing a rigorous academic path with competitive softball, physical training, and enrichment opportunities—all while building a schedule that works for her.
Outside of academics, much of Adelina’s time is spent on the softball field. A dedicated and passionate player, she dreams of continuing her softball career at the collegiate level.
Being active is an important part of Adelina’s life, and Visions has given her the flexibility to pursue her athletic goals while staying on track academically. By working with her credentialed teacher to create a personalized learning plan, Adelina has been able to build a schedule that accommodates her commitments both in and out of school.
In addition to softball, Adelina enjoys physical training and tumbling through enrichment vendor GymStars Gymnastics, giving her another opportunity to stay active and develop her skills.
“I love that Visions allows me to do these things unlike a regular school.”
For Adelina, one of the most valuable parts of her Visions experience has been the flexibility to create a schedule that truly works for her.
Balancing academics, athletics, and personal interests is no small feat, but having the freedom to structure her learning around her goals has helped her stay focused and make progress toward early graduation.
That flexibility is strengthened by the relationship she has developed with her credentialed teacher, Jillian Torres. Adelina appreciates knowing she has someone in her corner who can provide academic support, help her work through challenges, and keep her moving toward her learning goals.
“She is a hardworking student,” shared Ms. Torres.
As she prepares for the next chapter of her education, Adelina already has a clear vision for her future. She has developed a strong interest in medicine and hopes to turn that passion into a career. At the same time, she plans to continue pursuing softball and hopes to compete at the collegiate level.
For Adelina, her time at Visions has shown her that pursuing multiple goals is possible when she has the flexibility and support to build an education around them.
When asked what she would share with a prospective student considering Visions, Adelina shared the following:
“If I had the opportunity to speak to someone considering Visions, I would let them know they’re in for a treat. I would say to be prepared to get their work done on top, just like normal school, but to also be grateful they’re given the flexibility Visions has to offer.”
