Health and Nutrition Pathway

Visions In Education is proud to provide 10th, 11th, and 12th grade Independent Study and University Prep students with educational experiences that extend beyond the classroom and reach into their future. Visions’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) program strives to prepare students for college and career by keeping students engaged while providing credentialed instruction, work-based learning opportunities, and dual enrollment and articulated college credit.

Health and Nutrition Pathway

Healthcare is currently one of the fastest growing career sectors in California and the nation. The Health and Nutrition Pathway is a two-course pathway that provides the foundational knowledge and skills needed to be successful in careers involving nutritional health. This pathway gives students the opportunity to earn the Nutrition Education Certificate at Folsom Lake College through additional dual enrollment and advanced education courses.

After completing the classes for this certificate, students may apply credits toward the Associate in Science in Nutrition and Dietetics for Transfer (AS-T). Read more.

Pathway Features:

  • Earn the Nutrition Education Certificate at Folsom Lake College.
  • Take classes such as Nutrition and Metabolism and Cultural Foods of the World.
  • Learn from guest speakers.
  • Develop healthcare and employability soft skills.
  • Earn Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) certification.
  • Earn CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Earn college credit: this pathway offers CCAP dual enrollment courses in partnership with the Los Rios Community College District.
  • Get access to internship, job shadowing and/or community service opportunities.

  • Get a head start on earning college credit while still in high school for free.
  • Classes are free. Visions covers the cost of books and supplies.
  • Program makes the transition from high school to community college easier.
  • Explore a career field and potential jobs before committing to a college major.


To register Visions students must be enrolled in Independent Study or University Prep and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Recommend that students reside within the Los Rios Community College District.
