Seven years ago, Carlee C. enrolled at Visions—and she never looked back. Today, she is a senior in the University Prep Early College Academy, reflecting on her journey and the many accomplishments she has achieved along the way.
“I had struggled in public school socially, as well as not finding the academic material challenging enough. Visions has been such a huge part of my life since then,” she shared.
Since enrolling, Carlee has fully embraced the opportunities available to her. From serving as an ambassador in her Career Technical Education (CTE) pathway as she works toward her goal of becoming a doctor, to participating in clubs and student events, to pursuing her State Seal of Biliteracy in American Sign Language—her involvement has been both meaningful and impactful.
Her dedication has remained strong, even through personal challenges. While navigating multiple knee surgeries, Carlee stayed committed to her education, working closely with staff to continue progressing. “At Visions, I was supported by staff, and being able to work from home was crucial to my recovery,” she explained.
“I truly believe that without Visions, I would not have been able to accomplish all that I have.”
Carlee has already begun laying the foundation for her future career. Through enrollment in Visions’ Medical Careers CTE pathway, she took an important first step toward her goal of becoming a doctor. “It was an amazing introduction to the medical field,” she shared.
Her involvement didn’t stop there. For the past two years, Carlee has served as a CTE Student Leadership Ambassador, gaining valuable leadership experience and building confidence along the way. “This has provided me with incredible leadership opportunities, which have overall helped with my confidence,” she said.
Most recently, Carlee represented Visions at the 2026 Educating for Careers Conference, where she joined fellow CTE Student Ambassadors in sharing the impact of leadership opportunities within CTE programs with educators from across California.
In addition to her CTE involvement, Carlee has taken advantage of dual and concurrent enrollment opportunities, allowing her to get a head start on college coursework.
“I have learned so much by taking college classes and getting a head start on college,” she said.
Through concurrent enrollment, she discovered a passion for American Sign Language (ASL). She is now completing testing to earn the California State Seal of Biliteracy in ASL—an achievement that will open doors for future academic and career opportunities.
Carlee has also explored her creative side and is now a published author through her participation in the Find Your Voice Writing Program.
Beyond academics, Carlee has made it a priority to stay connected and involved in the Visions community through student clubs and events.
“The opportunities I’ve had here are invaluable,” she shared.
Her involvement spans a wide range of student activities, including American Sign Language Club and Newspaper Club. She is also an active member of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) and participates in the Success Through Education Mentoring (STEM) Program.
Through these experiences, Carlee has gained not only academic enrichment, but also meaningful social connections and personal growth that will support her beyond high school.
“From dances to museums to college tours, Visions has an event for everybody,” she said. “I met some of my best friends at Visions events.”
As Carlee looks to the future, her ambitions extend far beyond becoming a doctor. She hopes to contribute to advancements in medicine while also preserving its history. In addition, she is passionate about raising awareness of gaps in healthcare and working toward meaningful improvements.
When asked what advice she would give to students considering Visions, she shared: “Visions is a fantastic school. I would recommend it to anyone who is struggling in a traditional school setting.”
Visions looks forward to celebrating Carlee and all of her accomplishments at the graduation ceremony this June. Congratulations, Carlee!
“There are no words to describe all that this school has done for me. I will always be grateful for all of the wonderful people who make Visions as great as it is.”
